Society Member Leads in DKG Relationship with UN and CTAUN
Anne-Marie Carlson, member of New York Pi Phi Chapter, has played an instrumental role in the DKG relationship with the United Nations (UN) and specifically the Committee on Teaching About the United Nations (CTAUN). Anne-Marie first served as a representative on behalf of DKG in conjunction with our non-governmental organization (NGO) status with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) and the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). She has continued her involvement with the UN as a member, director and chair of numerous subcommittees and councils, including the NGO/DPI Executive Committee, for which she has served as director, vice-chair and chair.
Educators around the world, however, may be most aware of Anne-Marie’s involvement with CTAUN. Soon after the committee’s founding in 1996, Anne-Marie (who was instrumental in the founding of the committee) began organizing volunteers to develop strategies and resources that would assist educators in teaching about the United Nations and global issues. She has chaired most of the CTAUN conferences since the first conference in 1999. Even with all Anne-Marie contributes each year to CTAUN and the UN, she still finds the time and energy to support DKG at chapter, state organization and international events.
Visit www.ctaun.org for more information about the committee, upcoming conferences and the resources available for educators.
Anne-Marie Carlson opens the 2017 CTAUN Conference, held at the UN Headquarters in New York.
