The
Latin American Conference (LATAM) was a complete success. The confernce began Friday afternoon, April 29, with a formal inauguration honoring the Mexican flag with the military band followed by the states banners. The message from the International President and a beautiful commitment renewal ceremony was directed by Hilda Díaz de Cano. Participants enjoyed the cultural night where Mexican food and mariachis music was enjoyed. Members met the Deltos (members’ husbands that always help with activities) and enjoyed the talents of Jalisco dancers, Monica Ochoa´s Hawaiian dance, Guatemalan music and a Panama poem.
Saturday began early in the morning with the workshop on different generations interacting in Delta Kappa Gamma. The second workshop was about leadership in the educational field and in the Society. Members were very excited to learn about the term- transformational leadership-by Bernard Bass that invites us to evolve in our leadership strategies. A workshop for treasurers was taken by everyone since anyone could be in that position at some point. The importance of completing forms on time and how the forms are being used at the International level was discussed.
After lunch computers were used to explore the different communication options in DKG, our website, the LA
TAM website, the DKG network and the DKG LATAM Facebook group. The last workshop of the day was the Forum planning meeting. Minutes were reviewed along with goals and the topic was defined for the 2011 Forum.
At the end of the conference each participant received a certificate and sang the DKG song. Everyone enjoyed the meeting and received a little something from the different states, candies, handcrafts, pictures.
On Sunday many went on the Tequila route tour which took us to the agave fields, showed us how they cultivate the agave plant and later how they process it in the mill in order to make tequila. We even tasted the fruit after being cooked and then of course the different stages of tequila drink. It was a very interesting and different experience.
