Communications and Publicity Committee

About the Committee

Communications committees at all levels provide the linkage of member to member, chapter to state organization, and state organization to international, and they encourage communication with other constituencies.

The international communications committee stresses the international scope of the Society, supports and reviews the international, state organization and chapter websites, encourages professional content in Society publications at all levels, and emphasizes the importance of public and member relations at all levels through the development of a public relations plan.

Committee Goals

1. Broadcast the BUZZ by communicating monthly with state organization presidents, communications committee chairs, editors and web masters; Administrative Board members, International Committee members and Headquarters Administrators. Post Broadcasting the Buzz on the Society Web site.
2. Encourage chapters to publish information about their activities in local media.
3. Provide suggestions to chapters to make the Society more visible.
4. Recognize outstanding educators.
5. Encourage the use of "elevator speeches".
6. Encourage the distribution of Society publications in various community locations such as doctors’ offices, libraries, teachers’ lounges, etc.
7. Present pre-conference training sessions for state organization editors and webmasters at regional conferences.
8. Offer communications workshops at regional conferences and the international convention.
9. Provide model press releases for members of chapters and state organizations.
